LookOver: Maintenance Tracker

Your dirt bike has a service log. Your mountain bike should too.

Chain wear, brake pads, sealant, fork service. LookOver tracks your mountain, road, or e-bike by miles and calendar dates, in the same garage as the machine with a motor.

YOU KNOW THE FEELING

Most of us came to bicycles from the other direction. The dirt bike gets a service log. The mountain bike gets ridden until something squeaks.

Then the chain stretches past half a percent and takes the cassette with it. That's a hundred-dollar mistake a ten-dollar chain checker would have caught. Brake pads go to the backing plate halfway down a long descent. Fork seals weep because the lowers haven't seen fresh oil in two seasons. Sealant dries out over winter and the first flat of spring gets fixed with a tube on the side of the trail.

E-bikes don't make this easier. Motor torque eats chains and pads faster than your legs ever did, and now there's a battery and a firmware update to think about too.

None of it is hard. It's a lot of small intervals, and they're easy to lose when the bicycle isn't your main machine.

BUILT BY A RIDER WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM

LookOver started in a Montana garage. The founder had a new bike and wanted to take care of it right. He logged every service in his notes app: oil, chain, valve clearance, air filter. Before long, it was a disaster to manage.

He looked for a maintenance app built for powersports. Found nothing that fit. So he built one.

LookOver is purpose-built for riders who do their own maintenance. It works offline because we know you ride where there's no signal. It tracks hours because that's how dirt bikes measure wear. And it's simple enough to use with greasy hands.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR BICYCLE RUNNING RIGHT

Templates for Mountain, Downhill, and Road

Three predefined maintenance schedules built around how bikes actually wear. The road template covers gravel and cyclocross too. Apply one, then edit any item to match your bike.

Reminders by Miles, Dates, or Both

Bikes don't have hour meters. Set intervals in miles with a calendar backstop, like brake pad inspection every 200 miles or 30 days. LookOver nudges you when the first one hits.

E-Bike Extras as Custom Reminders

There's no e-bike template yet, so we won't pretend there is. Add your own reminders for battery checks and motor service on top of the mountain or road schedule.

Photo Documentation

Snap the chain checker reading or the pad thickness before you swap parts. Attach it to the service so next time you compare instead of guess.

Service History That Sells the Bike

Every chain swap and brake bleed in one log, fork service included. Export it as a PDF when you sell. A documented bike moves faster and for more money.

Same Garage as Your Dirt Bike

The two-stroke tracks by hours. The mountain bike tracks by miles. LookOver keeps both in one garage with separate schedules, so one Friday check covers everything you're loading up.

WHY BICYCLE MAINTENANCE TRACKING IS DIFFERENT

Your dirt bike has an hour meter. Your bicycle has a computer on the bars, if it has anything. So bike intervals run on miles, with a calendar date as the backstop for the weeks it sits in the garage.

LookOver's bicycle templates are built that way. Chain lube every 50 miles or 7 days on a mountain bike, 100 miles or 14 days on a road bike. Drivetrain clean at 100 miles or two weeks. Whichever comes first fires the reminder. Enter your miles after a ride and the app does the rest.

A stretched chain is the most expensive cheap part on the bike. Ride past half a percent wear and it starts chewing the cassette and chainring. Now a $30 fix is a $150 fix.

The templates put a chain wear check every 500 miles on mountain and downhill bikes and every 1,000 miles on road bikes, then a chain replacement at 1,500 or 2,500 miles. The road template adds a cassette at 5,000 miles. Log the checker reading each time and you'll see the trend before it costs you.

This is the one place bicycles borrow from dirt bikes. Fox and RockShox spec fork and shock service in ride hours, not miles, because a slow technical climb wears seals as fast as a quick fire road.

The mountain template puts a lowers service at 50 hours or 6 months and a full rebuild at 200 hours or a year. The downhill template halves that: 25 hours or 90 days for lowers and the rear shock, 100 hours for the rebuild. Don't track hours on your bike? The date backstop catches it anyway.

Tubeless sealant has a shelf life inside the tire. Ninety days in warm weather and it's a rubber ball rolling around in there, doing nothing when you pick up a thorn.

All three templates refresh sealant every 90 days, by date, since miles have nothing to do with it. Running tubes? Delete the item. Running tubeless on the gravel bike and tubes on the commuter? Each bike gets its own copy.

Everything above still applies to an e-bike, just faster. Motor torque and extra weight wear chains and pads well ahead of the pedal-only intervals. Many riders shorten the chain and pad items by a third and go from there.

On top of that there's a battery to check, a motor to service, and firmware to update. LookOver doesn't have an e-bike template, so add those as custom reminders. A date reminder for the firmware check, a mileage reminder for the motor service, whatever the manufacturer's manual says.

For most LookOver riders the bicycle isn't the star of the garage. It's the commuter, or the thing you ride when the dirt bike is torn down. That's exactly why it gets neglected.

Putting it in the same app as the two-stroke fixes that. Same garage. Same Friday check before you load up. The mountain bike just becomes one more machine that's ready when you are.

"I race motocross and ATV motocross with 7 bikes year-round. I can be mid-season and know my practice machine needs an oil change while my race machine needs a top end. I never have to think 'when was the last time I did this?'"

"I tried several apps, but LookOver flowed better overall. When I ran into an issue early on, I reached out directly and they fixed it fast, then improved it on top of that. I see a lot of potential in this app."

"I bought a used ATV with issues from poor maintenance by the previous owner. I wasn't about to make the same mistakes. I searched the App Store for 'UTV Maintenance,' tried a few options, and LookOver won on features, design, and support. When I reached out with a question, the response was so fast I knew I'd found the perfect app."

"I'm still a newer rider, going into my second season, and this really helps me stay on top of things. There aren't many other apps that are decent for maintenance. Most are more focused on tracking rides."

"I downloaded a few apps. LookOver was the most user friendly, and I liked that I could add pics. Kept LookOver, deleted the rest. It's a great tool to keep records for the future. Super handy when it's time to sell, too."

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT BICYCLE MAINTENANCE TRACKING

Yes. LookOver works completely offline. Log services, check reminders, and view your history with no signal. Everything syncs automatically when you're back online.
The free tier supports one machine. Pro subscribers can track unlimited machines, which is great if you have a whole garage to manage.
Yes. Export your complete service history as a PDF anytime. Buyers appreciate documented maintenance, and it often means a higher sale price.
If a spreadsheet works for you, stick with it. But most riders find that smart reminders, offline access, and photo attachments make tracking easier and more reliable than managing a spreadsheet on your phone.
Not a dedicated one yet. E-bikes use the mountain or road template for everything pedal-powered, which is most of the bike. Then you add custom reminders for the battery and motor, set by date or by miles. It takes about two minutes and you end up with a schedule that matches your bike instead of a generic one.
Miles and calendar dates for almost everything. Chain lube at 50 miles or 7 days. Pad inspection at 200 miles or 30 days. The one exception is suspension. Fox and RockShox spec fork and shock service in ride hours, so the mountain and downhill templates do too, with a date backstop in case you don't log hours.
Three templates: mountain, downhill, and road. Mountain covers hardtails and full suspension, from XC to enduro. Downhill runs shorter suspension and brake intervals for park laps. Road covers gravel and cyclocross as well. Hardtail with no rear shock? Apply the mountain template and remove the shock items.
Update the odometer from your bike computer or your riding app after a ride, or once a week if that's easier. Reminders recalculate from whatever number you enter. Pro riders can also let LookOver's GPS ride tracker fill in the miles.
Yes, that's the whole idea. The dirt bike tracks by hours, the mountain bike by miles, and each gets its own schedule. The free tier covers one machine. Pro covers the whole garage, so the bicycle can sit right under the two-stroke.
