Start the Ride Without Touching Your Phone

Your Bluetooth headset can start the ride now. Plus End & save from a Garmin or Wear OS watch, Apple Watch rides with the phone in the truck, and miles and hours that fill in on their own.

By Derek Hildreth

A rider who puts miles on a Goldwing all year wrote in with a simple problem. He kept forgetting to hit start. Every ride he forgot was hours and miles that never reached the bike, and his reminders drifted. He already ran an app that started when his headset connected, and he asked if LookOver could do the same.

It can now.

Your headset starts the ride

Pick your headset, intercom, or the bike’s own Bluetooth once, and the machine you ride with it. When it connects, your phone buzzes and one tap starts the ride on that machine. When it drops off, you get a one-tap prompt to end it.

Comms blip out, I know. If your device reconnects within 15 seconds, nothing happens and it stays one ride. If it comes back after the end prompt, the prompt clears and you keep riding. Nothing ever ends without your tap.

On Android you set it up right inside LookOver, under GPS Tracking in More → General. On iPhone it takes two quick automations in Apple’s Shortcuts app (iOS 17 or newer), and then it works even with LookOver closed.

Answer it from your wrist

On Android, the end prompt now leads with End & save. It keeps the ride exactly as recorded and skips the review, so the phone stays in your jacket. Got a Garmin or Wear OS watch that mirrors your notifications? Start ride, End & save, and Keep riding show up right on the watch.

On Apple Watch you can skip the phone entirely. Start a ride on the watch, leave the phone in the truck, and keep an eye on your speed and moving time from your wrist. The ride hands off to your phone once you’re back near it. It needs watchOS 11 or newer, which means a Series 6 and up.

Or just start from the machine

Prefer the old-fashioned way? Open the machine and hit Track This Ride on its hours and miles card. You’re already looking at the bike, so the ride lands on the right one.

However you start it, the point is the same. Your miles and hours fill in on their own, so your reminders reflect how you actually ride. It’s all part of Pro, and every new rider gets 14 days of Pro free, no credit card. If you’ve been meaning to try ride tracking, this is the easiest it’s ever been.

Ride more. Wrench less.

LookOver is free to download on iOS and Android. One machine is free forever.
