Your Reminders, In Your Calendar

Subscribe once and what’s due shows up in Apple, Google, or Outlook Calendar, right next to the weekend you’re planning to ride. Free for everyone.

By Derek Hildreth

A rental shop asked me if their maintenance could show up on the shop’s shared Google Calendar. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted it for myself. You already plan the weekend in your calendar. That’s exactly where you want to see that the chain is due before Saturday’s ride.

So now it’s there. And it’s free for everyone, because it only reads your reminders, and reminders are free.

Subscribe once

Open the More tab and tap Calendar. Add to Google Calendar takes you to Google’s add page, and on iPhone, Add to Apple Calendar drops you right on the Subscribe sheet. For Outlook, or to finish on a computer, tap Copy Link and paste it in. Heads up, Google on a phone sometimes sends you to a computer to finish, so Copy Link is your friend there.

What shows up

Reminders with a date land on the day they’re due. Hours and miles reminders don’t have a date, so they show up on today once they’re getting close, tagged Approaching, Due, or Overdue, and they stay there until you knock them out. A dated reminder you let slide moves to today too, marked Overdue. Finish a job in the app and it drops off the calendar.

Calendar apps check for changes on their own schedule. Apple and Outlook usually look about once an hour. Google can take a few hours to catch up.

Shared garages and keeping it private

The link belongs to the garage. If you share a garage with your crew or your shop, everybody adds the same one and sees the same list.

Anyone with the link can see your reminders, and your calendar service sees your machine names and reminder titles. If the link ends up somewhere it shouldn’t, or someone leaves the crew, the garage owner or an admin can tap Reset Link. Calendars on the old link stop updating, and you add the new one.

Give it a try and tell me how it looks in your calendar. I’d love to hear which one you’re using.

Ride more. Wrench less.

LookOver is free to download on iOS and Android. One machine is free forever.
