Tracker or Maintenance Log? What Your Rental Fleet Actually Needs
A GPS tracker tells you where a machine is. A maintenance log tells you if it's ready to rent. Here's how to tell which one your shop needs.

Every rental shop owner knows this morning. The customer is at the counter, the bike is on the stand, and nobody's sure if the chain got adjusted after the last rental.
When shops start shopping for software, GPS trackers usually come up first. They're good at what they do. But most rental headaches aren't about where a machine is. They're about what shape it's in when it comes back, and whether it's ready to go back out.
So before you put a tracker on every machine, figure out which problem you're actually solving.
The hardware math
A tracker is one more device on every machine. At five machines that's no big deal. At a few hundred, it's a project.

That's before any monthly fees, which many trackers charge per machine. Every install means pulling panels and wiring to a battery. And a hard-wired tracker draws a little power, so a machine that sits for weeks needs a battery tender.
LookOver needs no hardware. Your crew logs from the phones and the shop tablet they already have. Add machine 26 or machine 260 and there's nothing to install.
$250 is an example price for a no-subscription tracker. Real prices vary by brand.

When a tracker is the right call
Get a tracker if any of these sound like your shop:
Theft is your biggest worry, especially machines parked overnight at a trailhead or a customer's campsite.
You need to see where a machine is during a rental, for geofences or recovery.
Your insurer or lender requires one.
LookOver doesn't do any of that, and we won't pretend it does. Our GPS lives on a phone, not on the machine. It logs a ride when someone records it. It can't find a bike that got pushed into the back of a van.
What LookOver does for a rental shop
Most of the real work in a rental shop happens between rentals. That's the part LookOver is built for.
Check it in. When a machine comes back, log the mileage or hours, run a return checklist and snap damage photos, all on one screen.
Park what isn't ready. Mark it Not Ready so nobody hands the keys to the next customer by mistake.
Know who did what. Every tech signs in as themselves, so every service shows who did the work. Give each person edit or view-only access.
Let the schedule run. Each machine gets reminders by hours, miles or date. Oil, chain, tires and brakes come due on their own.
One garage, every brand. Adventure bikes, dirt bikes, ATVs, side-by-sides and the trailer that hauls them, all in one place.
Works with no signal. Log in the back of the shop or at the trailhead. It syncs when it finds a connection.
The office sees it all. Check what's due from any browser while the crew works from phones or a shop tablet.
Proof when you sell. Export a machine's full history as a PDF, or hand the buyer a QR code that transfers it.
Already have trackers? Keep them.
Trackers and LookOver don't compete. The tracker watches the lot. LookOver keeps the machines rentable. Plenty of shops will run both.
If you're comparing no-subscription trackers, that's a solid way to cover theft. Pair it with a maintenance log so every machine that comes home is ready for the next customer.
